Volvik V2 雷射測距器是一種便攜式光電設備，具有測距、補償、振動功能。測距器發射不可見的、人眼安全的紅外能量脈衝，這些脈衝從觀察到的目標反射迴光學單元，並通過測量每個脈衝從測距儀傳播到目標並返回所需的時間來計算距離。
一般情況下測距儀的測距精度為正負一碼/米。儀器的最大範圍取決於目標的反射率和顏色。此外，照明條件（陽光）會影響設備的測距能力。反之，越少（陰天）單位的最大射程越遠；非常晴朗的日子會降低裝置的最大射程。
高反射物體（白色房屋）的最大距離為 990 碼/900 米，高爾夫球旗可達 250 碼/230 米。
